The computing world is very interesting, and it is fascinating, to study, how the parts of a computer are made. In today's article we are going to talk about, the central processing unit, also known as the GPU. When you are very much in dept within your programming journey, you'll find that things, are not as difficult anymore; but you'll also find that you'll have to do a lot of work as well, at some point.

If you are able to see yourself through the work, you will achieve great things with your programming skills, but you must do the work.

In today's article we are going to talk about Graphical Processing Units (GPU) and understand better, the methods in which computer scientists are able to accelerate things in the cyber world.

Enterprise, consumer, analytics and scientific applications, are able to be accelerated, because computer scientist are able to combine the power of a GPU, with that of a central processing unit (CPU); in order to develop a GPU-accelerated computing device.

The energy-efficient data-centers that you would find in enterprises, small and medium businesses, universities and government labs are now powered by GPU accelerators.

NVIDIA developed the GPU-accelerated computing technology in 2007 to accelerate computing devices such as cars, robots, drones and mobile devices to name a few of the computing devices that a GPU is accelerating in today's world. GPU-accelerated computing offers unprecedented application performance by offloading compute-intensive portions of the application to the GPU, while the remainder of the code still runs on the CPU. From a user's perspective, applications simply run significantly faster.

The applications of computing devices that take advantage of GPU-accelerated computing, are able to run significantly faster than any other applications that are not using the GPU system.

The GPU is able to take on some of the most compute-intensive portions of the applications that are part of your computer device that uses a GPU.

The GPU was developed to specialize in the processing of graphics, but it has evolved to be and to have a more flexible architecture. So now graphics are not the only resource of the computer, that can use the GPU to accelerate its services to the users.

GPU have been stretched to serve other resources of any computing devices, so that the maximum level of efficiency and performance of any computer device can climb every year.

GPU-accelerated computing devices are going to dominate the market, and this may leave the CPUs lonely and without use anymore.

The traditional fixed-function, three dimensional pipeline that you were fed by your computing device is being forgotten, due to the fact that more and more GPU-accelerated computing devices are floating the markets and the demand for this type of technology is growing.

GPU-accelerated computing devices have a better computer engine, because the GPU-accelerated computing device is provided with a dedicated computer engine that focuses on high-performance, and a visually rich three dimensional, experience that interacts with your users.

GPU-accelerated computing devices are becoming more and more popular because there is a dramatic and inevitable demand for video games and advances in manufacturing better technology.

All the underlying computational horsepower of computing devices are leverage in GPU-accelerated computing devices, because of the presence of well developed algorithms which have been directly implemented into the computational-engine of GPU-accelerated computing devices.

The GPU-accelerated computing devices are developed with one thing in mind, to utilize the techniques used to provide better visual graphics for video games, into a general-purpose parallel computational-engine.

GPU designers understand that there is an image-synthesis process, that they could use to process and to develop algorithms that could be used to accelerate computing devices.

In today's mainstream computing system, the graphical processing unit is becoming an important part and resource of many computing devices.

GPUs today are not only powerful graphic engines, but are also high-level parallel programmable processors, that can also, give computing devices a better speed performance than CPUs could ever give computing devices.

The GPU has rapidly increased in programmability, capability and acceleration, which has led many people to form a research community, that would successfully develop the guidelines, for programmers to develop GPU-accelerated computing devices. Nvidia certainly heated up the GPU market with the introduction of its GeForce GTX 1080 “Pascal” graphics chip earlier this month. It’s the company’s fastest processor yet, and we’re now seeing Nvidia partners rolling out their GTX 1080-based solutions alongside the official launch, including long-time GPU collaborator Asus. The first company to develop the GPU is NVIDIA Inc. The GeForce 256 GPU was capable of billions of calculations per second, can process a minimum of 10 million polygons per second, and has over 22 million transistors, compared to the 9 million found on the Pentium III. Its workstation version called the Quadro, designed for CAD applications, can process over 200 billion operations a second and deliver up to 17 million triangles per second.

High performance computing systems of the future will include GPUs because GPU computing are becoming a compelling alternative to traditional microprocessors.

The GPU-accelerated computing device is highly gaining maturity and it is becoming the preferred choice of technology, that developers use to satisfy the need of the demand for better computational technology.

We should mention that the architecture of the GPU has evolved from being a fixed-function pipeline, which lacked the ability to efficiently express more complicated operations which are essential in complex systems and applications.

The fixed-function pipeline means that when coding anything that has to do with real-time graphics, you have limited matrix of color intensities.

The fixed-function pipeline also, means that the CPU of the computing device is so much more slower than the GPU-accelerated computation technology, because you can't customize a CPU.

Therefore, the fixed-function per-vertex and per-fragment we'll be replaced with user specified programs that would run on each vertex and fragment.

Fully featured instruction sets, more flexibility in the control flow and larger limits on their size are some of the new features of vertex programs and fragment programs, which are supported by GPU-accelerated computing devices.

One of the main reasons why GPUs are so popular today is, because of its ability to allow the developer to reconfigure functions and its algorithms within its code.

The first programmable GPUs brought some excitement to the computer world, because these GPUs had what we all know as a programmable rendering pipeline, which helped developers in many cases, so that you could write your own programs.

The piece of code you write for GPUs are also known as shaders; these programs could be executed for each vertex or fragment that is part of the video card.

When programmable GPUs came into the scene many developers felt as though it was the future and that we have leaped forward into a better tomorrow.

High level languages for GPU programming such as HLSL, GLSL, and Cg emerged due to the fact that you could reprogram your GPU.

The complexities and expressiveness of many assembly languages also, increased due to the fact that programmers could create shaders for their GPUs.

The focus of programmers on GPU architecture, is on the fact that they can insert programmable pieces of code to their GPUs known as shaders.

The fact that shaders have become more powerful and the vertex and fragment program of GPU applications of all types have increased in complexities as well, GPUs are becoming more and more powerful for computing devices.

The GPUs that you will encounter today are surrounded by supporting fixed-function units which can easily be programmable.

A single program multiple-data (SPMD) programming model is followed by the programmable units of the GPU.

In order to achieve optimum efficiency the GPU processes many vertex or fragment elements in parallelism while using the exact same program.

All the programmable elements of GPU are processed by a single program and in a parallel way.

Also, each elements don't communicate with each other, which means that they are independent from each other, which makes your code much easier to debug.

The large fraction of resources that is devoted to computing in a GPU is its greatest advantage.

GPUs have really taken flight since it emerged, many computing devices are now utilizing GPUs as a major computing resource for computing devices.

Due to the fact that GPUs have twice as many transistors as the CPU and are evolving to be a better choice than CPUs, many people are buying GPU-accelerated computing devices.

GPUs also devote the majority of its transistors to computation, because it only uses small caches; while CPUs use most of its transistors because it uses L2 cache.

CPUs use a large pool of memory to store information which would be used later, this process is also, known as the CPU cache.

Sophisticated algorithms decide which information is stored in which memory pool, to be used later in the system by the CPU.

Cache helps CPUs have the next bit of data it will need in the future ready, so that it doesn't spend too much time looking for that data and more time computing.

GPU-accelerated computing devices make images look great, they have seamless motion, and make the applications on your device run faster.

Computing has evolved and will continue to evolve and as we move into an age that has not yet been able to consider what we have created so far, we will pause for a moment and come to the realization that we have come very far in the technology industry.

GPU-accelerated computing devices are an example of how we are evolving from one technology to another.

We don't even look at CPUs in the same light anymore, because we have realized that our creation was not as clever as our next creation.

We will acknowledge our pattern and recognize that we are getting better and better at the technology that we have created.

However, we must continue to develop our skills and continue to develop applications that can change the world and bring real value to people.

We have to acquire more knowledge and learn how to use this knowledge because having lots of information doesn't help us achieve our ultimate goals and our ambitions to understand that creation was given to us freely and that we should strive to maintain our world.

A graphics processing unit or GPU is a specialized processor that offloads 3D graphics rendering from the microprocessor. It is used in embedded systems, mobile phones, personal computers, workstations, and game consoles. Modern GPUs are very efficient at manipulating computer graphics, and their highly parallel structure makes them more effective than general-purpose CPUs for a range of complex algorithms. In a personal computer, a GPU can be present on a video card, or it can be on the motherboard. More than 90% of new desktop and notebook computers have integrated GPUs, which are usually far less powerful than those on a dedicated video card.  A video card, video adapter, graphics-accelerator card, display adapter, or graphics card is an expansion card whose function is to generate and output images to a display. Many video cards offer added functions, such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes, video capture, TV-tuner adapter, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, light pen, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors, while other modern high performance cards are used for more graphically demanding purposes such as PC games. But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful.

Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it?

But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure? On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee.Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.
