The networks we make in life, often determine whether or not we find good opportunities in life, which can help us live a better life.
When you are not able, to change your life, it might mean that you need to change your circle of friends and create new networks.
Now I am not saying that you should, just go ahead and leave your friends, or cut people out of your life.
Oh noooo, I am not suggesting that at all, but what I am saying is that you should definitely look into being closer to other people, who can help you go to the next level in your life.
In today’s article, we are going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages, of the ring network topology.
The ring network topology, is a type of network topology, classified as a local area network, where a closed loop configuration, is used to connect nodes, which are also known as workstations and other computing devices, which have network connection abilities.
Pair of nodes, are directly connected, when they are adjacent to each other, and other pairs of nodes, are connected indirectly, because data passes through one or more intermediate nodes, when information is being transcribed, in a ring network topology.
Some of the advantages of the ring network topology, is the fact that it is very organized, because each node is able to send the data, as soon as it receives an empty token.
It is very important to receive an empty token, because it helps the network, have less collision of data, therefore, making it a fast network.
Another advantage of the ring network topology, is that it flows in only one direction, at a very high speed.
The ring network topology is a better choice of topology, then that of the Bus topology, even when the load on the network increases.
Another advantage of the ring network topology, is that the connectivity between workstations, is not controlled by the network server, in a ring network topology.
In a ring network topology, another advantage is that, the performance of the network, is not affected by additional components, that are added to it.
Another advantage of the ring network topology, is that it is also able to provide, each computer, equal access to resources.
Alright, enough with the advantages, now let’s talk about their disadvantages, some of the disadvantages of the ring network topology, is the fact that each packet of data, must pass through all the computer, between source station and destination.
One of the reasons, why it would be a disadvantage, to allow packets of data, to pass through all the computers, between source and destinatiokn, is that it makes the ring topology slower than the star network topology.

Another disadvantage, of the ring network topology, is that if one workstation, or port goes down, then the entire network is affected as well.
Another disadvantage of the ring network topology, is that the network is dependent, on one wire, which connects different components, on the ring network topology.
As you can see the ring network topology, is not as great as it could be, it has its advantages but it also has disadvantages.
This is why network designers and engineers, developed other types of network topologies, because they knew, that there could be better ways to design networks, which could transfer data more efficiently.
