Websites are the way to go if you are a businessman, but you should already know this, because you are a businessman, or own a company. The business world today, have been impacted tremendously, with the advancements that the Internet has been making for the past twenty years.

In today’s article, we are going to be talking about designing a website, to understand the steps, that it takes before a website is completed and people can see it online. Several Steps must be taken, to properly design a website, the first step that is to be taken, is the planning of the website. During this step, you as the website developer would be able to answer many questions, such as who is the site intended for, and what will they want to find? The planning of the website, before it is developed, can break or make the website development efforts. The time, money and effort that would be put into developing a website have to be carefully planned as well.

During the planning phase, a requirements document list is generated, which is used to guide the developer(s) so that designing errors are not encountered. Once the planning is done, then is time to design the infrastructure of the website; this is done, by choosing a correct platform, in which the website will be hosted on. The correct technology to use for the website would also be chosen during this phase of the website development efforts.

You have a couple of options out there, you can either chose to host your website in a hosted website builder, or you can choose to host your website in an open source, code-it yourself environment such as Drupal.

The only thing you need to know when making your choice is that, if your website every gets too big and complex, you will eventually have to hire a developer, or you are going to have to learn how to code yourselves if you don’t already. Regardless of how well you know how to code a website, if you are the owner of the site, you won’t be able to eventually do all the work by yourselves, because of the amount of work a person must put into a website.

Websites are complex tools, which companies can use to reach many customers, therefore, these big companies do hire developers who take care of their websites, because the website has morphed into a complex system, that need developers on site to take care of the website.

Hopefully, you would have picked your domain name by now, if not you need to choose one before you choose your platform and host company. Next, you’ll need to design the homepage of your website, which should follow the already established standards. For example, the navigation tab should be at the top of your web page, if you use a search bar, that should be at the upper-right side of the site, and the logo should always be at the very top of the site, it could be in the middle, left or right-hand side of the screen.

But you can also follow your own guidelines, if you don’t like the standard guidelines, set up for website developers already, by experienced developers who know and understand the cyberspace of the website world.

Once you’ve designed your website and created the PSD files, using photoshop, then you’ll be able to take your designs and turn them into a code, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. If you are not the most skillful web developer, because you are a beginner, then you’ll need to choose a platform that does all the design and computing part for you. The platform will take care of most of the work for you, but you’ll still need to choose a template and modify that template to fit your needs.

Whatever route you choose and whatever programming skill level you are at, designing a simple website for the first time, should be simple. It’s when the website star to grow, that you will encounter all kinds of problems and bugs daily.

Hi every one, I obtained a bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics back in 2006, from Claflin University, after I received my bachelor's degree, I gained full time employment as a software engineer at a Video Relay Service company, maintaining databases and developing software for a new developed device called the VPAD.

I worked at that company for two years, then I became a web developer, and worked for a magazine for three years. After that job, I worked as a Drupal web developer, as a subcontractor for the NIH, for a year and then left the job to go back to school.
